AESSEAL wins Degussa Contract

Degussa, a German owned international chemical manufacturer, has one of its chemical manufacturing plants based in Knottingley in Yorkshire, UK.

This plant had been contracted to a large competitor mechanical seal manufacturer for the past 4 years. At the end of the contract period Degussa were obliged to look for another supplier.

So at the end of 2001, AESSEAL® were invited to bid for this prestigious contract, which only served to encourage the existing seal supplier. Degussa therefore extended their contract for another 12 months trial period.

Above: Mike Goodworth, Procurement Manager of Degussa Knottingley with Owen Bewick of AESSEAL® the new Degussa Account Manager, signing the contract for a five year exclusive AESSEAL® supply of Mechanical Sealing Devices and Sealant Systems.

During that time AESSEAL® regrouped and prepared more information based on Degussa current Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and other data. Our opportunity came in December 2002, when the seal contract expired.

This time the AESSEAL® Corporate Development team (John Pedder and Peter Watson), were invited to present the AESSEAL® Seal Management Contract. This included strategies to improve their MTBF and increase seal reliability, thus reducing their annual seal and pump repair spend.

This was well received by the Degussa contract team of Rob Morgan, Engineering Manager, Mick Waite, Reliability Engineer and Mike Goodworth, Procurement Manager, and so on March 1st 2003, AESSEAL® took over the exclusive Degussa contract at this site for a 5 year period.

Since that time the Degussa team has invited AESSEAL® to present to their other Degussa plant at Seal Sands in the UK, with an introduction to their other 10 production plants in Germany.
