Q and A

With Jonas Valdbjørn

What was the problem with the original (competitor’s) seal?

The competitor’s seal was a single seal that leaked every time the pump stopped. If the pump stopped unexpectedly, the seal would fail. This was happening every few months. It was made worse by the fact that the installation of the seal was very complex, so there were a lot of mistakes during the installation process every time a seal had to be replaced.

Can you explain how the contract came about?

AESSEAL Danmark made the initial contact with the company, which was not one of our existing customers. On our first visit they showed us some failed seals and we offered to repair them. As we got to know them and the relationship developed, they told us about the problems they were having, the expense involved in continually having to repair the broken seals, and the constant interruptions to the production process. Because of all the repairs we had been doing it was clear that they had a problem. We convinced them that an upgrade to a dual seal would solve the problem and that the CDPH™ seal would be the best option to cope with the abrasive particles in the media.

Why was this equipment appropriate for this application?

The dual seal means that even if there is a problem in the system, it won’t affect the seal or the operation of the pump. The seal’s large ports and generous radial clearances mean that it is able to maintain a stable fluid film, and its drive mechanisms are designed to minimize the possibility of seal face damage.

What feedback have you had from the customer?

They’re very pleased with how the CDPH™ seal has performed. They say it’s even better than they expected, and they are no longer worried that the seal will fail every time the pump stops operating. In fact the seal we originally installed operated without a problem for nearly seven years until the first planned maintenance was carried out in June 2024. The return on investment was achieved in just six months.

Has the success of this installation led to any other contracts with the company?

Yes. We now provide them spare parts, and we have also completed another successful application on the same site, where we developed a mixer seal for them. The result is that they now come to AESSEAL® for all their day-day requirements in sealing products.
