Q and A

With Alexandre Olivier

There were multiple problems on this site and it wasn’t simply damaged seals. Could you explain the problems regarding the resulting site waste and why they occurred?

The reactor used on the site was intended to recycle and treat the final effluents generated by the pharmaceutical production. Due to a malfunction of this equipment, the customer was forced to outsource the treatment of these wastes, which was proving very expensive.

What was the problem with the braided packing?

It was the wrong packing solution and the wrong installation procedure supplied that led to all the difficulties.

Why was trapezoidal cross-packing more suitable and was it an obvious solution?

Trapezoidal cross section packing allows a better force repartition through the stuffing box, allowing better sealing capability on an actual used shaft. This joined to a correct packing selection solved all the problems.

What were the results of the switch?

No leak, no additional need to subcontract waste treatment and disposal. Also production increased. So it was an all round immediate result due to the reduced friction and heat and the wear on the packing.

Was the customer an existing AESSEAL client and how pleased were they with the results?

Yes, it was an existing customer and they were really pleased with our solution which has been running with no interruption since the first installation.

Have you received any more orders from them?

This was a unique piece of equipment on site, but we have received other requests for quotations for different ones..
