AESSEAL® has been recognised for its commitment to mitigating climate change, winning the Sustainable/Ethical Manufacturer Award in the prestigious Made in Yorkshire Awards.

The Rotherham-based company, which designs and manufactures mechanical seals and support systems, achieved net zero carbon emissions in its UK operations in 2020 and is on target to achieve global net zero by 2029.

It has also spearheaded a campaign – betterworld.solutions – to demonstrate to other industries how sustainable policies and practices can lead to net zero carbon emissions without negatively impacting on productivity or profit.

AESSEAL® received the award at a ceremony in Leeds on July 29th.

Chris Rea, Managing Director of AESSEAL®, said: “Sustainability has been at the heart of this company since day one, and is an everyday element of our global manufacturing operations and the workplace.

“We have no regulatory obligation to work towards net zero carbon emissions - it has been our self-motivated aim based on our ethos as a responsible manufacturer, employer, local community member and global citizen.”

He added: “We believe it is our duty not just to encourage, but also to support other companies seeking to reduce their carbon footprint. The betterworld.solutions website grew from this commitment.

“I’m delighted to have these efforts recognised by the Made in Yorkshire Sustainable/Ethical Manufacturer Award.”

As part of its journey towards achieving UK net zero carbon emissions - covering all scope one and two greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions plus those associated with business flights - AESSEAL® reduced electricity use by 28 per cent and gas use by a quarter over the decade to 2018. Waste diverted from landfill and waste sent to landfill reduced by nearly half.
