The AESSEAL Factory for the Future has been voted Sustainable Development of the Year at the South Yorkshire Property Awards.
The new building, which was opened earlier this year, extends and modernizes the previous plant, doubling it in size, to create a 175,000 square foot state-of-the-art factory designed as a global showcase for sustainable manufacturing.
Project spending includes £5.8 million ($7.5 million) of ‘green-only’ investment, such as solar panels, battery storage, and other energy-saving or environmental measures. The project brings total investment on the site to almost £70 million (US$88 million).
AESSEAL® has also invested more than £13 million (US$17 million) on 32 robots to increase still further the company’s manufacturing efficiency. Another 26 robots have been installed on an order picking system which integrates seamlessly with its management software.
Chris Rea, Managing Director of AES Engineering and AESSEAL, said:
This is a vote of confidence in the future of high value-added precision engineering in South Yorkshire. We are taking on the world and showing that it is possible to be a successful and sustainable business with a strong social and environmental conscience.
The award was announced at Insider Media’s annual South Yorkshire Property Dinner, one of the key annual events organized for the property industry in the region. The awards are supported by SY Jessica, brm, Harworth and Sheffield Property Association.
Outstanding Development of the Year was the £470m mixed-use development scheme, Heart of the City, Sheffield, which aims to transform the district between The Moor, Fargate and the Devonshire Quarter.
